George
Richard Balke joined the United States Navy in 1959 and retired in 1979 after
proudly serving for 20 years. After retiring from the Navy, George worked
for McDonnell Douglas in Cape Canaveral, Florida and moved to Lindsey, Texas
with his third wife, Becky, where he worked for Georgia Pacific.
In the summer of 2006, George fully retired and moved to Springfield, Missouri.
It was a life long dream to move back to Missouri where he had fond memories of
living in Missouri as a child. He made many friends, enjoyed his
motorcycle, and was active with the American Legion Post 639, Legion Riders, and
the Patriot Guard. We all remember him with a Miller Light (in the
bottle), a salt shaker (because he liked to lick the salt off of his fist), his
Honda Gold Wing trike (which his moto was "you can never go to fast"),
and living life to the fullest. His favorite word was "Putz" and
called many people that with fondness.
He
is survived by 4 children: Kenneth, Melynda, Russell, and Heather. He is
survived by 10 grandchildren (Christina, Rebecca, Bryan, Katherine, Leah, Kory,
Karisa, Nathaniel, Paige, and Hannah), 2 great grandchildren (Abigail and Paul)
and countless friends that miss him dearly.
