NEW EDITOR OF T.V.V

To all who don't know me, my name is Gene Beattie and I will be taking over this job from Bill Roark.  He has received a promotion at his job and will be out of town alot more so I will try to do the same excellent job that Bill has done.( No promises)

A little about me. I am about to turn 56 on the 20th of this month and have been  married to Pat, the Bar Manager for 4 years on November 10th.  No, I don't get any cuts on anything from behind the bar. I have to pay like everyone else.  We have 4 kids (2 girls of Pats and 1 of each for me) and they have decided to scatter themselves all over the country.  Amanda is currently serving in the U.S. Navy in Monterey California and Amy, with boyfriend in tow, is in the process of moving from here to St. Clair, near St. Louis.  Nyki is living outside Chicago in Montgomery with her husband and 2 1/2 kids.  Daron is in the process of moving from Kalamazoo, Michigan to near Reading, Pennsylvania with his soul mate Nicole.  All of our kids seem to be very happy so Pat and I are thinking, we must have done something right.  I just became unemployed so I will have time to edit this newsletter.  I have been out of work since 2001 with a hip replacement here, and a knee replacement there and I have realized one thing. Getting old sucks !!!  I have also been repairing and building computers and have built 2 for our Post.  When the E-Board nominated me for the position of Sargent At Arms, it caught me me a little off guard but I will do my best to fill this position. I am also a karaoke DJ and am shooting for a karaoke show every 1st Sunday of the month from 7:00 pm to close so come on out and SING WITH US !! ( That's the 7th of August, Tennessee) HA. I would like to switch to Saturday so let me know if you would like to change days. Thanks to Chris Foster for doing karaoke. It's nice to know I have a back-up when needed.

Installation of the new E-Board officers is scheduled for August 2nd, 2005.  Good luck to all who have been elected and may this be the best year ever ! Remember-Dues for 2006 can be paid to J.C or the bartender so " GET-R-DONE "

I would like to start a section in the T V V for birthdays and anniversaries so if you know yours, (the last sentence is for all us guys) then let me know and it will be included.

Pat has informed me that they are having a poll for what you would like to see happen at our Post on the back of the calendar so check that out.  Also watch the L.E.D. welcome sign above the bar for upcoming events.

Kudos to all our members who have helped out with projects in the last month.  Without you, our post would not be growing like it is.  Even though I'm married to Pat (sorry Guys, I'm gonna keep her),  I would like to thank her for making the bar and kitchen area a place that we feel we like to come home to.

Just remember to come on out to OUR post to talk and have a great time with our members.  Remember...You make Post 639 what it is !!

 MEDICAID CUTS

Eight people chained their wheelchairs Wednesday to a door leading into the Missouri House and demanded to see Gov. Matt Blunt during a protest against Medicaid cuts he signed into law this week.
Hundreds of disabled people, along with some of their attendants, marched around the Capitol peacefully. The situation turned tense when eight protesters threaded chains through their wheelchairs and locked themselves to a House chamber door.
"The disability community will not rest until every Missourian with a disability is able to live in the most integrated setting as an equal part of the community," said protest leader John Loyd, of Rochester, N.Y., and formerly of Warrensburg, Mo. Capitol police cut the chain within 15 minutes. But the protesters blocked the door for two and a half hours Continued on Page 3…..

 From the Commander

Well, another year is upon us already and we wonder where this year has gone.  I would like to thank Bill Roark for all the work and effort he has put into the Newsletter as informative and entertaining as it has been for the last year and a half.  He is passing the keyboard on to Gene Beattie to continue the tradition.  Good luck Gene.  If you have any information for the membership, write it down and put it in the editors box at the Post. Gene will appreciate all the help he can get to fill the pages.  You can also E-Mail him at

oldkaraokeguy@yahoo.com with information or articles.  Speaking of filling the pages, it’s renewal time again.  We were one of only three Posts in the district to make 100%.  Congratulations to all 2005 paid members because it’s YOU that helped us to make that goal.

I would like to thank the ladies Auxiliary for working so hard on July 3rd.  I felt bad that I could not be there to help out, but as always I heard you all did a great job.  Coming up on Aug 2nd,  Audra Gentry will install the newly elected officers. It’s nice having her in the house.  Would like to thank Gene for taking over as the new editor of the newsletter.  It will give him something to do Ha Ha.  I would Like to say Happy B-Day to Mr. Braxton VanThournout as this young man will Be 1 year old. Chaplain’s Report

This has been a very good month.  Not much sickness - except for Pat Beattie, our internationally known, world famous, top of the line bartenders in the Southwest part of Missouri, had a medical procedure called an epidural for back pain. Beverly Miller fell and was in the hospital with scrapes and bruises but no blood clots as the doctors first thought. We are thankful that Pat and Beverly are both doing better. Paula Fleemans brother, Donald Wayne Fleeman passed on 7/21/2005.  The members of this Post are sorrowful in your loss. Please contact with me with information on members who have been ill and injured.

Please remember our men and women in the military. Keep our POW's and MIA's in your thoughts and prayers.

From the Web

Almost 2 years ago Burman Walker asked me to act as Editor of The Veterans Voice for a couple of months until he found someone to do it on a permanent basis.   Those 2 months turned into almost 2 years and hopefully most of you enjoyed some of the changes that were implemented into "The Voice".  It  Has been a great experience and has been my pleasure to work with everyone…..Continued on page 3

that has contributed to the effort during that time.  I have taken on some new job responsibilities and as Willie Nelson would say, "I'm on the road, again".  I will be away for as much as 3 weeks at a time and it would not allow me to do the job of editing the newsletter.  Gene Beattie has agreed to be the editor, and I'm sure he will do a great job.  I know not everyone has appreciated all of the articles that have been penned over the last 18 issues, but at least it made people have some reaction.  I will continue to be the Webmaster for www.post639.com  and will keep it updated even if I have to do it from the road.   There are pictures that were taken during the dedication of The Lapon that will be posted as soon as they can be edited.  There are other activities coming up including installation of post officers that will be posted as they happen over the rest of the summer and into fall.  I'll also contribute articles to the newsletter and put some new articles on the web site.  Well, I don't want to make this too long or Gene will not be able to get It squeezed in into this edition, so from the web, Keep Clicking.

before leaving . Blunt did not meet with the group. "We're always glad to see people come to Jefferson City to share their views," said Spence Jackson, a spokesman for Blunt.

To this list of cuts, I would add Matt Blunts plan to eliminate the First Steps program for babies with disabilities. A really stupid idea! I take this personally as our family benefited greatly from First Steps, years ago. The proposed Medicaid cuts are the worst blows to health care and to the healthcare economy that I've seen in my many years as an advocate. If the Missouri House and Senate accept the governor's cuts, hundreds of thousands of poor people  will lose access to health care. Parts of this article taken from the internet.
